Public Policy
Working with constituents, public institutions, and elected officials, including members of Michigan’s Legislature, Triangle Foundation promotes the human rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender GLBT) persons of Michigan. Our work shaping public policy—while always directed toward gaining recognition of the human rights of GLBT persons —takes many different forms.
Voter Registration & Education
One of our most important activities at Triangle Foundation is fostering an informed, voting community. Through conducting voter registration & voter pledge campaigns, surveying candidates for public office, pre-election phone-banking, holding voter rallies, and publishing voter guides, Triangle Action Fund and Triangle Pride-PAC has encouraged high levels of voter turn-out amongst the GLBT and allied communities in recent elections.
Lobbying
Triangle Foundation has a full-time lobbyist working on behalf of the GLBT community with the state legislature in Lansing. Our lobbyist works with legislators to address issues of inequality in state law concerning Michigan GLBT citizens and to make certain bills under consideration are not harmful to the community. Coordinating efforts with other lobbyists working at the Capitol, Triangle ensures that GLBT citizens have a voice in the Legislature’s deliberations. One important way in which GLBT persons have a voice at the Legislature is through our annual GLBT Lobby Day, at which constituents from across Michigan come to the Capitol to meet with their representatives. Through face-to-face, grassroots lobbying, GLBT and other fair-minded Michiganians are able to participate directly in the legislative process.
Research & Writing
Providing accurate information to legislators and the general public is vital in a climate of myths and deliberate misinformation. Triangle Foundation provides clear and factual information to legislators regarding GLBT persons.
Teamwork Is The Key!
Triangle Foundation is a team of dedicated professionals…and you are the most important member of our team! It is your input that gets the legislator’s attention, and, without you, all our efforts will be in vain. Securing human rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Michiganians requires all of us working together. Please visit our Action Center today to sign up for periodic updates.
